Weighing in at 8,200 lbs equipped with aluminum wheels, the Freedom XP is nearly 1,000 lbs less than a comparable combination steel/aluminum trailer. The Freedom XP maximizes payload capacity being able to withstand 60,000-lb loads concentrated in four feet and up to 120,000 lbs of uniform distributed loads.
Available in 48' and 53' lengths, the FREEDOM XP's innovative design features a two-piece bolted mainbeam design to optimize overall performance. The top and bottom halves of the beams are engineered for light weight, superior strength and streamlined design. Camber is locked into the final beam assembly using fail-safe, long-lasting stainless steel lock bolts front-to-rear. The L-shaped bottom half of the beam allows for clean, durable attachment of the upper coupler and suspension for long life. The top half of the beam accommodates Great Dane's unique Crossmember attachment to the mainbeam. In place of welding, which is prone to fatigue and cracking, the FREEDOM XP utilizes a bolted design and fatigue-resistant stainless steel lock bolts to secure crossmembers to the mainbeams, reducing wear and ensuring long-lasting service.
Four-inch deep aluminum crossmembers are standard on 16-inch centers front to rear. Twelve-inch crossmember spacing is optional for additional support. An optional coil package places extra crossmembers between the mainbeams in the coil area to reduce floor damage.
Two-piece, heavy-duty outriggers transfer load weight from the side rails to the lower main beams and are securely attached with specially designed fasteners.
For ultimate flexibility in load securement, the Freedom XP features heavy-duty extruded aluminum side rails with a full length built-in sliding winch track and a unique second top track for sliding chain hooks. Standard on 24-inch centers, double pipe spools and stake pockets offer additional securement points. A 3-inch aluminum rub rail protects the sides of the trailer from scrapes and hard bumps.
The 1.25-inch aluminum floor is standard with two apitong nailing strips and features a safety-grip surface for positive traction when walking on the deck and to help restrain cargo movement. Pull-up chain ties can be recessed in the floor for additional cargo securement.
The Great Dane Model 60 Landing Gear features a lift capacity of 55,000 lbs. and uses a constant mesh gear box, which keeps gears engaged for consistently smooth shifting. The landing gear construction features a floating nut design which protects the elevating screw from damage caused by dock walk. Critical reinforcement of the support gear area adds strength and dependability. Support gear legs are mounted to massive aluminum extrusions for exceptional strength, and welded reinforcement pads help to eliminate failures at bolted connection points. Completing the design, Great Dane's proprietary replaceable shock-mounted sand shoes reduce stresses in the mount by 50 percent. Componentry is bolted in place for ease of repair.
The Freedom XP's suspension features designed-in strength for extended frame life. The combination of galvanized steel and aluminum reinforcements between the mainbeams provides durability and protection against corrosion. Bolt-on "K" bracing reinforces the front axle, to help prevent stress cracking from side-to-side loads. The standard Hendrickson INTRAAX air-ride suspension is not only lightweight but delivers reliable performance. The tapered-beam combines with Hendrickson's Large-Diameter Axle (LDA) technologies for increased bending stiffness and improved durability. This system also features long-life Tri-Functional® pivot bushings for a smooth ride and Quik-Align® for fast and easy axle alignments. An additional standard feature, the 6-Year Stemco Platinum Performance Plus Wheel End System includes Guardian HP oil seals, PRO-TORQ spindle nuts, and integrated Sentinel hub caps. The entire system is warranted for 5 years for parts and labor and includes an additional year of coverage on parts, which can be extended to 9 years with required maintenance.
The Freedom XP standard lighting package features MicroNova® DOT LED lamps, designed to improve visibility and service life of the lights, and the Long Life Light System. The industry's best wiring harness, the Long-Life Light System is a maintenance-free, fully modular system backed by a 10-year warranty. This sealed harness prevents moisture intrusion, is extremely durable, and combines the flexibility of a custom wiring system with the reliability and simplicity of a sealed harness.
The unique rear frame construction features a three-piece bolted rear impact guard that meets all federally-mandated requirements for the U.S. and Canada. The bolted-design makes repairs or replacement effortless. Five rear stake pockets are recessed within the rear crossmember for impact protection. Heavy-duty extruded aluminum tubular corners include full depth bumper blocks for additional protection against dock impact. All rear lights are shock mounted and recessed for maximum protection. The backs of the light fixtures and connections are fully enclosed and protected from road debris and ice buildup.
