Maxim's Doug Harvey Donates to Support Safe Spaces for Children

As symbols of strength and resilience, bison stand together to protect their young. Inspired by this collaborative, protective nature, Toba Centre is bringing an art installation – Bison on the Boulevard – to Winnipeg’s Roblin Boulevard.

Beginning May 28, 2025, children, youth, and families on their way to Toba Centre will pass by the herd of concrete bison – each beautifully painted by a Manitoba artist and a symbol that their community is with them. Standing together, each bison will bring something unique to the herd, just as the team at Toba Centre and the community bring unique and important pieces to Manitoba’s coordinated response to child abuse.

The fund for one of these Bison was donated by Doug Harvey (Maxim's CEO) and Jane Shute. "Doug and I believe in the vision, objective, and passion of all those involved with Toba Centre," says Jan. "Providing a space where children and families can find comfort, healing, and access to the resources they need when they’ve been impacted by abuse or witnessed violence is critical in our province. We believe it is the responsibility of our community to support these children during extremely difficult times.”

The Toba Centre for Children & Youth (formerly Snowflake Place) was created in 2013 to provide a safe, child-friendly setting for children impacted by abuse or witness to violence, and their caregivers, to meet with service providers and to be interviewed by highly trained forensic interviewers.
