Why do we call mechanics - technicians? More and more, the term 'technician' is used to describe the profession of 'mechanic.' In the past, mechanics mostly performed physical labour on vehicles. Today, things have changed. Technicians work with laptop computers to perform diagnostics on truck repairs. The skills required to use state-of the art shop tools and equipment has shifted focus from sheer physical effort to 'thinking work.' Our technicians continually take training to upgrade their skills in an increasingly complicated and legislated environment.

Approximately 50% of our staff is involved in the business of 'vehicle repair and maintenance.' Many of these staff members are technicians that will choose to stay in this professional trade for their entire career.

At Maxim, we offer technicians the opportunity to transfer to related positions including:

  • Lead Hand
  • Shop Supervisor (Foreperson)
  • Service Manager
  • Fleet Service Manager
  • Service Administrator
  • Warranty Administrator
  • Service Coordinator
  • Parts Counter
  • Truck Sales Person

President's Message:
Helping our customers get on their way

Many of our customers are trucking companies hauling freight across Canada or North America. This may include 'for-hire' carriers, private carriers, owner-operators, and inter-modal suppliers among others. Due to the size of our country, weather extremes, and diverse terrain, our customers have many challenges.

When a truck is out of operation, so is a customer's ability to make money. It's our job to get our customer's fleet running cost effectively the first time.

Part of Maxim's focus is to find the best staff and provide them with superior leadership, training, facilities, co-workers, and the tools they need to give our customers the best service possible to get them on their way.
